Important 2025 Payroll Reminder: Overtime Withholding Changes
As you close your books and prepare payroll reporting, we want to remind everyone of a critical change impacting the 2025 tax year.
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, passed on July 4, 2025, introduced a significant payroll update:

Federal withholding no longer applies to overtime wages for 2025

Employers are now required to separately report overtime and double-time premium amounts to employees

This reporting must be done either:

On the 2025 W-2 (such as Box 14), or
-
Through a separate written statement provided to the employee

This change has important implications for payroll configuration, reporting, and compliance—especially for construction companies where overtime is common. If you’re unsure how this impacts your Sage system or reporting setup, we strongly encourage you to review your processes now.
